5/10

Way of the assassin is just for the bonus damage of criticals?..... -_-.
If you have way of the assassin then way of perfection instead of 1 of those monk heals.
with no deadly arts and your attributes spread so much
1. Why impale....no attributes to spread to make DW last more then 3-7 seconds on a boss
2. Why take shadow arts and heal prayers at the same time if its just for regen might as well just take feigned and run away.

Put some synergy for Way of the assassin, like critical defenses or something of that nature.

You will do more damage by skipping your lead attack. The best way to do this is with a hex and Black Spider/Lotus Strike.
Live Vicariously is a joke. Drop it and put something better there. Shadow Refuge is a waste of points. Drop it and put Death's Charge/Recall or something there. Then add a monk to your party. With all those points gone from Healing Prayers and Shadow Arts, you can now have a decent amount in Critical Strikes, and Deadly Arts if you wish.

It'll work in PvE. So do my level 10 heroes beating up Margonites.

One thing: It's gonna run out of energy real fast because it doesn't meet the breakpoint for +2 energy per critical (8 Critical strikes.)

It'd run out of energy fast even if it was getting the +3 energy from 13 critical strikes. CS is bloody poor energy management. Better than nothing I suppose.

CS is very good energy management. You just have to use some CS skills that improve your energy ( BLS, crit eye etc. )

BLS?

I know Critical Eye makes minimal difference at best. It brings the energy-gain up to 4 energy for a critical, and since even the cheapest attack skill needs 5 energy... and critical strikes will still only happen about quarter of the time.... its an overall loss. All it'll do is slow down energy loss a little at the expensive of skill-slots.

... Unless somehow you can enlighten me as to how I might be wrong...

You also have 3-4 energy pips.

My yanssassin never runs out of energy even if he's moebius-hoto'ing forever. 3 regen+ zealous+ crit hits = enough energy.

Zealous kills one of those pips... though I suppose it about evens out with the energy gained back from hitting.

Still.... my few times I've tentatively tried a build with 13 Critical Strikes, even with Zealous Weapons, Critical Eye and my full set of Shrouded Armour.... I found I was running out of energy at almost the same rate as without the strikes / eye. Fact is, I'm just not that good at CS-heavy builds... I mean I find that no matter how many points I put into CS, it barely seems to make a dent on the number of critical hits I actually get (above and beyond the norm from 14 Dagger Mastery)... I mean... an extra 1% per rank? WTF?! ... Like 13% is going to do anything... even with the extra 6% from Critical Eye bringing it to 19% ... at least as regards energy management. Thats like an extra 4 energy every three seconds... as a rough estimated average (and not counting the Zealous weapons, which seem to just make up for the missing pip when using combos constantly).

I mean by no means am I saying you're wrong. I'm sure CS is great.... but I've got not the slightest clue what I'm doing wrong as I never seem to get squat out of it. As a result I spend half my time pretending to be a necro (or half-necro with dagger combos and Mark of Pain)... and the other half ID+ tanking with non-comboable Illusionary Weaponry.

What IS your "Yanssassin" build? I've heard it mentioned a few times around the place.... including in your "Yanganksin" thread (or whatever it was called).

In my opinion, in higher level PvE (lvl24+). anything that boost critical attack rate is a waste on skill bar. the chance increase in critical attack is nearly insignificant. attack skills (GLS, CS) that give extra energy > increase critical attack rate because ANet don't care of it.

(All melee char need a boost that rate of reduction in chance of critical hit should stops at enemy level above 22 since they have much more health + armor + attribute point + Health regeneration. (fair for PvP and good for PvE)

I correct what I said before.

Since the update (something I didn't pay much attention to), it seems Critical Eye makes a rather greater difference to critical hit rate... pretty much matching (or close to) the level added by the Critical Strikes attribute... thereby doubling the overall effect to a rather more shiny 26% or thereabouts.
Then of course there is Way of the Assassin... which when it works ups critical chance quite substancially... (though of course it requires an enchantment to work, and is a stance by design).

So maybe its starting to become more viable now.... on occasion at least.

SotiCoto, as a 'sin, how did you not pay attention to the update? Blasphemy! Seriously though, go check it out on GuildWiki. We got a lot of love in it.

Critical Eye is up to 13% after the buff (at 13CS). Combine it with Way of the Assassin (which gives you 31% at 13CS), and you've got a really high chance to critical.

Combine it with Critical Defenses and/or Way of Perfection, and you could do worse. Assuming PvE, your combo would necessarily have to be something basic; you could go with the Fox combo, which is finally available thanks to Nightfall, but the recharge times are a bit high. I would say something like this:

[skill]Jagged Strike[/skill][skill]Wild Strike[/skill][skill]Death Blossom[/skill][skill]Critical Strike[/skill][skill]Way of Perfection[/skill][skill]Critical Defenses[/skill][skill]Way of the Assassin[/skill][skill]Critical Eye[/skill]

I usually run 13 DM, 11 SA, 13 CS.

Your damage isn't going to be through the roof, but your energy management will be fantastic. You could reasonably drop Critical Eye for an IAS; Flurry's an obvious choice, as is Burst of Aggression. If you're going to be in PvE and using this to farm, however, you might really consider bringing Flail. It's adrenaline-based, which means you'll be able to keep it up indefinitely.

This build is disgustingly vulnerable to conditions, but you're obviously using this to fight melee mobs, so make sure that conditions and non-melee characters aren't going to be significantly present where you're running this build.

With all the energy you'll have, you could also think about Shatter Hex.
